The Figurative

Shadow_edited.jpg

The human figure in its most natural element is an aesthetic form simply because of its raw beauty. This series pursues the extension of the body and its abstraction through body landscaping. I started this work by endeavouring to reveal the essence of human expression and chronicled the journey through these photographs. Each figure is accentuated through the use of light and shadow and are isolated in their environments to focus on their expression through sculpture. The subjects, are intentionally pedestaled as figural forms to then become sculpturally chiseled in the eye of the viewer. Collectively, the figures are unique and diverse, yet all reflect both the expression and the essence of what it means to be human. The exquisiteness of contortion and movement manifests into figural art forms. These are figurative imageries through a range of imaginative shapes while pushing the limitations of the human body to capture a gamut of expressions.
